Maria Marino
My landscapes present a dialogue in color and light. Whether I am painting en plein air or in the studio, capturing those overlooked spaces in the landscape environment, my compositions are about those serendipitous discoveries. They come to life in a bold spectrum of tones.
My works employ the use of oil, soft pastel, watercolor, and graphite. They are filled with light and color and accentuated by the juxtaposition of brush and mark making. I draw inspiration from 20th-century Expressionists and modern architecture.
The paintings are evocative; sometimes they are full of movement, and sometimes they are quiet, dreamy, still, and reflective, but they always portray an atmosphere of spontaneity. My subjective and creative style captures the beauty of the living world. Whether in plein air or studio, the importance of freshness, like the day they were painted, is paramount.
