A post from Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, circa 2020, about Rosa Parks. “She sat down so that we could stand up.” I was reflecting on the current political situation in my nation and wrote a short verse to accompany the painting. I wrote as I painted, mulling over the words in this haiku:
The ghost of Rosa
Implores us to stand and fight
For justice and right.
