Study for Stress Series 19
For many women, a hectic life results in being overcommitted and overwhelmed. The Stress, Pit, and Covid Series drawings reflect upon this common-place tension. Small studies are drawn before the time-consuming larger works are started. Studies, from 30 x30 inches such as the one entered, to many only a few inches in size, are used to confirm the composition of drawings or to clarify implied messages in sculptural projects. These preparatory efforts also gauge my interest in pursuing a similar image in a much larger format. Observed in these studies are minuscule close-up details that have interest separate from their practical preliminary studio function. This beginning work assures that the desired implication is evident that visual images can reflect the complexity of emotional states. Paradoxically, for me, working on these drawings causes a “flow experience” that relieves stress.
