INTERIORS is a series of eight paintings of oversized and close up views seen from the heart of one Poinciana tree that grows in my front yard. Viewed from within the tree, intense light pours around petals and leaves, reveals delicate lacey patterns, bulging seedpods, and deeply corroded bark. From this intimate perspective, one discovers compositions abstracted by scale and lack of context, different from the tree we thought we knew, a view more often seen by ants and lizards on the Poinciana highway. The parts and pieces, whether recognizable or not, take on a life of their own and become parts of a complex puzzle. The attraction is not in recognizing a named, beautiful thing, but in opening one’s eyes to the incredible richness of natural images framed for the viewer by the artist.
