This is a street view of the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts located in downtown Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. It really could be any city’s skyline on a beautiful night with stars in the sky and twinkling lights reflecting in a fountain. I took the picture which led to the painting with the hopes of capturing the excitement in the air before a thrilling performance. My technique of using palette knives to spread the oil paint on the canvas enables me to stay loose with undefined edges letting the minds eye complete the structure. Oil paint is the perfect medium for applying layers to create texture that adds movement and definition. The dark moody colors let the electric lights glow. Creatively this painting captures a night on the town!
