I don’t use pencil or paper for my concept work; I do everything digitally. Using Photoshop and original digital photos, I combine, manipulate, merge, add, and eliminate areas until the final image emerges. Once satisfied, I use the finished digital image as a visual reference for painting. In some cases, it stays as digital art. The mediums I work with include acrylics, mixed media, and digital art. My primary focus is urban topics. I’ve explored downtown buildings with display windows that blend the window content with the surrounding reflections. At times, I digitally add graffiti to buildings. I love the raw beauty of graffiti. I recently created a small series of paintings and digital art that depict interiors, incorporating graffiti and street art. The overall connecting theme of my work is bold, bright colors and flattened forms. I prefer a nod to comic book-style art, an approach evident among the Chicago Imagists, a few of whom I studied with during college.
