The Bittersweet flower has been known to represent truth, persistence and resilience. The truth often being bittersweet. In this painting the woman holds the (flower of) truth and fights off the chaos in the world as represented by the geese with ‘truth’. I feel truth is hard to come by and expensive today to verify, but is essential to shifting the balance of good/evil in the world towards good. Truth gives us strength and power even though it may be much smaller than the evil it fights. Geese for me represent chaos and are a local resident of my studio. I composed the image after the conception of the idea. The figure is an invention and is not a portrait of anyone in particular.
