“The Muse” represents a very traditional feminine perspective, one that inspires men, in this case, a particular man, “The Artist”. While The Artist was demonstrating his technique to my class, I became intrigued by his muse. I could not take my eyes off her, wondering what it must be like to be the subject and object of art, passively providing the source of creation, over and over again. Of course, as much as she seemed like an anomaly to me, I too was drawn into her inspiring web. Most compelling of all, I wondered “what was she thinking?”. She must have learned so much about painting over the years, posing while The Artist worked. I’d love to paint the Muse again, this time with a paintbrush in her hand, herself, The Artist.
