Joanne DeLomba
As a child, I expressed my thoughts by drawing exciting fables of worlds populated with characters. I designed my own fairy tales that I found entertaining. At some point, I realized my creations had a similar effect on the viewer. My subjects are themes that everyone can relate to, topics such as courage, wisdom and family. Combining old world imagery and a contemporary palette creates a quality that is both modern and vintage. The Story Prints reach a broad and diverse audience, overshadowing geographical boundaries and cultural barriers. I use humor and whimsy to create unexpected associations people can enjoy in a cordial, good-natured environment. People are delighted when they feel a particular artwork is speaking directly to them, a story they can personally relate to. I enjoy the look in the eyes of an observer when they realize they are seeing a familiar tale, from their own life, even a memory. There is excited screaming and laughing and so much thanks. I get a lot of hugs!
