Summer has flown by, but I hope it was a time when everyone was able to take a break from daily routines and rituals. Perhaps, there were sunsets to enjoy, strolls on the beach, bike rides, reading books, travels to new places, or family get-togethers. I liken these carefree moments to stepping away from a painting to reflect, to get a fresh perspective, and, most importantly, to reflect and contemplate on what comes next.
The opportunity for NAWA artists to reflect on all aspects of art can be found in many ways. One such opportunity is with NAWA on-line receptions. These are events where artists talk about their work on exhibit and give interesting insights into technique and the creative process. I recommend that you attend the receptions even if you are not in the exhibition because you will learn from other NAWA artists. Another engaging way to get fresh perspectives is the “Round Table Presentations” that occur once a month. They provide important professional information for artists and are an opportunity for artists to ask questions. The NAWA NOW online magazine also is another way to learn about all aspects of art through the lens of NAWA contributing writers. Furthermore, “Noon with NAWA” invites artists to participate in lively discussions about art. At each session, a special essential question about art is posed, and the participants join in on inspiring conversation. It is a metacognitive experience where everyone is asked to reflect on their own thought process.
All these NAWA benefits are opportunities where everyone shares ideas. They are just a few of the interesting possibilities that NAWA offers to help expand your vision and journey of life-long learning as an artist. American technology executive and activist, Sheryl Sandberg, acknowledges this: “I am grateful to the people who encouraged me and helped me develop. Nobody can succeed on their own.”
